Michalovce
Michalovce is situated about 30 miles East of Kosice, and is the capital of the Zemplin region.
Region: Kosice Population: 42,000

The town center is a pleasant surprise this far east, and boasts a number of fine restaurants and hotels.

There is probably not enough in Michalovce to warrant spending more than a day here, but the Zemplin museum is excellent, as is the nearby man-made lake, Zemplinska sirava ("Slovak Sea").
