Geographic Facts about Slovakia
Situated at the geographic crossroads between Western and Eastern
Europe, Slovakia is less than 20,000 square miles in size and is
bordered by Austria, Czech Republic, Poland, Ukraine and Hungary.
For the most part Slovakia is a mountainous country with many different
mountain ranges, including the High Tatras, the Low Tatras, the
Mala Fatra, the Velka Fatra and the White Carpathians. However,
to the west of the country in the Danubian Plains where the capital,
Bratislava, is situated, the flat lowlands are in stark contrast
to the rest of the country.
The longest river to run entirely inside Slovakia is the Vah, which
from its source in the High Tatras runs south-westwards before flowing
into the Danube, just outside the town of Komarno.
