Slovak Traditions: White Saturday (Easter Saturday)
On White Saturday, people would take the opportunity to light fires and burn everything old and harmful. This tradition was known as the "burning of Judas". It was also thought that looking at the embers of these fires had magical protective powers.
Also, on the newly lit fires a celebratory meal was prepared. This would normally be pork, which symbolized power and wealth. People would put aside the fat from the cooked pork and use it later in the year to heal injuries.
