Famous Slovaks: Master Pavol of Levoca
The Master sculptor from the town of Levoca, was born in 1470. He was by the most significant Gothic Sculptor from Slovakia, and favored the old Gothic comunation style, while most of his peers were establishing the Mature Gothic tradition.
Master Pavol's most famous piece is his magnificent Gothic High Altar in St. James Church, in Levoca. This is the highest wooden altar in the world, at a height of 18.6 meters.
