Famous Slovaks
The Slovak people are extremely proud of their culture and of their
traditions, which are kept alive today through food, music, poems,
dance and song. Slovaks are also a peace loving nation - the split
from Communism in 1989, dubbed the Velvet Revolution because of
the lack of bloodshed, is a testimony to this. But more than anything
else the Slovak people are a friendly, God-loving nation, who are
polite, courteous and always ready to make you feel welcome in their
beautiful country.
Perhaps the reason why Slovaks are so keen today to keep active
their many folk traditions, is that they remember how hard they
have struggled throughout their history to keep their national identity
alive. There are many Slovaks who have played a big part in helping
Slovakia survive as a nation state throughout the last Millennium.
There are also many Slovaks who have contributed a lot to Slovakia,
and to the world, in terms of art, music, literature, poetry, science,
mathematics, politics and sport. This section of the web site is
dedicated to all of those Famous Slovaks.
